We are proud to have been supplying high-quality fencing products for over 70 years, and we would like to share some tips on maintaining those fencing products during the harsh winter weather.
Your fencing is something that can easily be forgotten when it comes to maintenance, but there are some straightforward ways in order to keep it in tip-top shape for many years.
The first tip we’d like to share regards overhanging branches. Snow or other harsh weather conditions can weigh branches down over your fencing, which opens the fence up to the risk of moisture damage, wood rot or other issues such as discolouration if they aren’t addressed promptly.
Strong, sturdy posts are absolutely essential for the continued stability and security of your fence in any season, especially during winter. Moisture from rain and snow can soften the ground, making it important to check your fence posts are still held securely in place. This will help to make sure they are able to support the weight of your fence throughout the year.
For extra peace of mind if you have concerns over the stability of a post, consider adding additional post mix to the base of the post. At Walford Timber, our PermaTimber® fence posts come with a 15-year guarantee as standard, and our post mix is some of the most competitive currently available.
The winter months can be harsh on your fence panels, so we do advise that you check your panels regularly for any visible damage and to repair or replace any broken panels as soon as it is possible to do so to maintain the quality of your fence.
Regular maintenance such as this will help to prevent any damage from spreading to further parts of your fence, which would result in the whole thing weakening.
A positive move is to coat your timber fencing with a high standard of treatment in order to maintain the quality and colour of the wood. This can help to minimise the risk of too much moisture getting into the wood.
